LEARNING 2008 Snowbird, Utah, April 1-4, 2008 http://snowbird.djvuzone.org Dear Colleague: The Computational and Biological Learning Society and the NIPS foundation invite you to attend the 2008 Learning Workshop. The workshop will take place in Snowbird, a beautiful ski resort in Utah. The workshop is the continuation of the highly succesfull "Neural Networks for Computing", and "Machines that Learn" workshop series held every year at Snowbird since 1986. The Learning workshop seeks to bring together leading researchers in computer science, statistics, physics, neuroscience, and related fields with a common interest in learning and adaptation, natural and artificial. Attendence is by invitation only through recommendations from the program committee. The Learning workshop is the premier forum for researchers in machine learning, statistics, physics, pattern recognition, vision, graphical models, neural nets, neuroscience, adaptive control, speech recognition, and cognitive science, who are interested in natural and synthetic learning. Attendees are strongly encouraged to contribute a one or two page abstract for an oral or poster presentation. The abstract should include a title, the author names as well as electronic and physical addresses. Please indicate which of the authors will present the paper at the conference. A sample abstract is available on the workshop web site. Please follow its format as closely as possible. The abstracts will be reviewed and selected by the program committee in February 2008. To aid in the refereeing and scheduling of papers, please choose a category for your abstract from the list below, and include it at the bottom of the first page of your abstract. Below the category, indicate your preference for oral or poster presentation. Abstracts must be submitted electronically through the website in PostScript. An abstract booklet will be distributed at the meeting and published on the web site around the time of the workshop. Detailed information about the meeting (sample abstract, reservation information,...) is available at http://snowbird.djvuzone.org. *** The deadline for registering and submitting *** *** an abstract is February 4th, 2008. *** CATEGORIES FOR ABSTRACTS: learning algorithms, learning theory, graphical models, learning in biological systems, visual processing and pattern recognition, speech and auditory processing, estimation, prediction, and sequence modeling, control, data mining. REGISTRATION: Although this is an invitation-only meeting, the Learning workshop is entirely self-funded and has no funds to cover attendee expenses. All is not lost, as the registration fee includes breakfasts and dinners. The following registration method are available: 1 - go to the web site http://snowbird.djvuzone.org 2 - Download the registration form and fax it to Karen Smith at (609)951-2482. The registration fee is US$450 before February 4th, 2008, and US$500 after February 4th, 2008 (no on-line registration) 3 - Call the Cliff Lodge hotel to reserve a room before March 1, 2008. 4 - submit your abstract electronically through the web site before February 4th, 2008 *** Your registration is not guaranteed until your *** *** registration fee is received. *** *** Attendence is limited to 130 participants among the *** *** invited persons on a first come first served basis *** The registration fee is refundable up until March 1, 2008. For questions or problems, please contact Karen Smith (learning2008@comcast.net). Please include the word "snowbird" in the subject line of all email messages.
